Doug Ishmael

Community Consultant

Doug Ishmael is a consultant with the Evolution Foundation with over twenty years' experience in the field of child welfare, specializing in child protection. As consultant for the past seven years Mr. Ishmael has provided consultation and collaboration, partnering with community members. He has led efforts to promote the Care Portal. Mr. Ishmael works closely with child welfare staff to assist children and families involved in the child welfare system to improve and become successful in leading stronger and healthier lives.

A graduate from Atoka High School, Mr. Ishmael has two sons and four grandchildren, all of Atoka, Oklahoma. His work history includes Correctional Officer, Case Manager and Deputy Warden with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. While working for corrections he attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. In 2001 Mr. Ishmael went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a Child Welfare Specialist. With a combined 29 years of State service, he retired in 2016 as a Child Welfare District Director.

Mr. Ishmael shared that he has learned a great deal about people and what it’s like to struggle through his career in corrections, child welfare and consulting in communities across Oklahoma. He stated, “helping others while in Child Welfare and now through my role with the Evolution Foundation has been the most rewarding work I have ever done.” Mr. Ishmael states he feels very blessed to have had the opportunities he’s had and looks forward to many more years with the Evolution Foundation.
